The scope of works involved, reviving and extending the original 1907 designed house and integrating 4 townhouses at the rear that complement the heritage significance of the site. The concentration to detail and smooth integration of these buildings helped this project win the 2013 MBA Best Heritage Style Home Award and the Medium-Rise Multi-Residential Housing Award.


Structural steel beams, columns and timber framing were used to support and extend the existing house. The townhouses consist of a timber-trussed roof, with masonry block walls for support and bracing.

The first floor utilised timber framing, with the ground floor and footings constructed of concrete. A series of masonry block retaining walls were used.


A balance in the cut/fill operations was undertaken to help maximise usable space, minimise project costs and account for the two meters of cross fall over the small site. Then a series of bored piers were used under the ground slab in the fill region to mitigate differential settlement.
