Stage 2 expansion of the existing school consisted of 11 new buildings and numerous covered walkways, and ancillary structures. New single and double storey structures were designed to house classrooms, music centres, arts and technical centres, performing arts centres and various other services.

BG Civil undertook the Engineering design + documentation incorliorating:

  • Bulk Earthworks
  • Internal Road Works & Car Park
  • Internal Sewer Reticulation
  • External Intersection Modification

The development is located in a significant overland flow path. BG Civil created a plan to divert these flows around the proposed area of construction, removing any potentially avoidable wet day claims.

BG Civil was also able to devise a rainwater harvesting system which collected overland flow. The collected water is used to irrigate the oval, removing the need to rely solely on council water supplies and reducing ongoing costs.

Through the strategic placement of support columns the two storey buildings utilised a highly efficient and economical structural system that maximised internal open areas and allowed for significant flexibility in future upgrades. Additionally, the use of timber wind trusses fixed above the ceiling line allowed the architect to create clear open plan classrooms and work areas without walls impeding. Using timber helped to minimise trade packages and help prevent construction bottlenecks.
